Bring The Family Back Together
Let’s start a parenting revolution!
Family is sometimes the greatest treasure we have. Sometimes, we focus so much on material things that we forget what’s really important. I’m Roxana Guy, the founder and main writer at Just Add That. I started this blog as a money venture. What I didn’t know when I started is exactly how many people were as clueless about parenting as I am. The reality is, we’re all learning along the way no matter what age you are. Some parents fake it way better than others do. For real parents like me, faking is not the best choice. The reality is, people are people, and if you’re trying as a parent, know that you are awesome.
The more I talk to people and meet others, the more I realize the nuclear family is still out there but fast becoming an endangered species. There are so many blended families with parents, step parents, grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and even friends suddenly being put in situations they never thought they’d be. The reality is life doesn’t always go the way we thought it would. Some people have every life goal itemized with a game plan to get what they want. Others are coasting through life just existing.
Where ever you are in your parenting style, know that there’s one thing we all have in common. We all love our families! And that’s why I changed my goals with Just Add That to be a blog geared more around what has worked for me and what others have taught me along the way.
There was a man in Nashville working at a gas station one day. I had to pee, and I jogged into the bathroom doing my pee pee dance.
After my sweet release, I decided that maybe I would be up for a snack and a water. I grabbed my items and went to the register. The cashier was in a terrible mood. While he was on the clock, someone had hit his car and had bent his front tire and axle under his undercarriage. He had no idea how he was going to pay for it.
We talked further, and we began discussing our backgrounds. He’s from Egypt. However, the US wasn’t exactly what he thought it would be.
“Everybody talks about money. Money, money, money,” he explained. “What about family? What about your values and neighbors? That’s what I miss about Egypt.”
The reality was I hadn’t really thought about it until then. We are a very materialistic society, and when we need someone the most, we feel so lonely and empty.
And that’s why I am so excited to be writing this blog. I am ready to bring back the focus to our families! Let’s start raising a generation of kids that are family oriented and filled with great values.
